Born and raised in Scotland, Nash spend his twenties on the move; three years studying Hindi at university and a stint working in Tibetan monastery in Northern India were closely followed by a move to Japan in early 2000’s, a relocation that proved crucial to his musical development. As an eager 21 year old, he quickly found himself immersed in a vibrant scene of experimental DJs and producers.

A shared love of obscure disco records saw him link up with DJ and digger-extraordinaire Chee Shimizu, who invited Nash into the “Discossession” collective, a small group of DJs who ran an influential party in Tokyo. Soaking up the knowledge of his peers, a deep knowledge of the obscure reaches of disco and house music expanded as Nash spent his free time digging around Japan’s record stores, picking up inspiration from weirder edges of genres Progressive Rock, New Age, Jazz and Ambient music. These finds could often be tested out at maximum impact on the high-end sound system of Hachioji Shelter, at Shimizu’s “Sci-fi”, an event which still runs to this day.

Fully immersed in music, the step from digging records and DJ’ing to making his own music was inevitable. Having played a variety of instruments since a young age, Nash pick up a few cheap synths and spent the next years working away before releasing his first record in 2008.  His early work was loosely associated with the cosmic-disco scene of the mid 2010’s, when he released a number of slow cosmic-disco records on labels like ESP Institute and Crue-l records which earned him support from heavyweights Francois K and David Mancuso, before moving into more ambient and new age territory in the mid 2010s with his project “Land of Light”.

A subsequent relocation to Amsterdam in 2016 closely coincided with the launch of his label, Melody As Truth. A run of solo records alongside collaborations with likeminded soul and studio-partner Suzanne Kraft set out the mission statement and cemented the sound of Nash’s contemplative, spacious yet melodic ambient music. Combining elements of washed out guitar textures, e-bow and electronics, Nash emerged as one of the key artists in the new wave of ambient music. This was further cemented through his work as Gaussian Curve, the “ambient supergroup” he formed alongside ambient pioneer Gigi Masin and Dutch producer Young Marco. Gaussian Curve’s two albums, in particular their debut album “Clouds” are considered classics of the genre.

Consistently prolific in his output over recent years, in addition to his work on Melody As Truth, Dutch label Music From Memory released Nash’s 2019 solo album “Make A Wilderness”. Over the last few years Nash has ventured further into folk and acoustic music, namely the 2021 album “Poe” with Indonesia Tarawangsa player Teguh Permana and 2022’s  “There Up, Behind The Moon”, and album of reinterpreted Romanian carols with artist Ana Stamp. In addition he compiled a retrospective of Czech duo Irena and Vojtech Havlovi.

In addition to his work as a producer, Nash is a regular live performer and has toured his solo live show all over the world. He was also worked on a variety of audio-visual projects including a 2019 installation with Japanese artist Yoshirotten and an participated in the Venice Biennale with Xavier Veihlan. His music has been used in a variety of series and films.

2023 sees the release of Nash’s first solo record on Melody As Truth since 2016. Entitled “Point of Entry”, the album represents the cumulation of all the travel and experiments that have taken place up to this point and a return to a guitar-focussed sound.
